Our work
Dedication. Expertise. Passion.
At the Kalahari Wildlife Project, our rehabilitation facility is designed to provide injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife with a safe environment. Here they can recover while ensuring they receive the care, nutrition and monitoring they need before they can be released.

Animal rehabilitation
Many of the animals that arrive in our care have been affected by human–wildlife conflict. Our rehabilitation centre is dedicated to providing wildlife with the medical treatment, care, and time they need to recover fully. Until recently, there was no specialised wildlife rehabilitation facility in the Northern Cape province dedicated to treating pangolins, meaning injured animals often had to be transported long distances for care.
By rehabilitating all Kalahari species within their natural home range, we reduce the stress associated with transport and support a more effective recovery process. This allows all wildlife to be released as quickly as possible into familiar surroundings, giving them the best chance to successfully reintegrate and thrive in the wild.

All pangolins are housed off site at a secure, undisclosed location for the protection of the animals and staff.

Partnerships & expertise
The rehabilitation facility at the Kalahari Wildlife Project is committed to maintaining the highest standards of animal care. We work closely with a network of wildlife rehabilitation experts, veterinarians and conservation specialists, regularly collaborating to share knowledge, discuss treatment plans and ensure best-practice care.

We also maintain strong partnerships with enforcement and conservation authorities in South Africa, including the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), the South African Police Service Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, Nature Conservation authorities and members of the public.

Our philosopy
Our guiding philosophy is to rehabilitate and return animals to the wild as quickly as possible. We are equally committed to inspiring the next generation through educational programs.

We follow a strict hands-off approach to give every animal the best chance at a natural, independent life. Young animals are especially sensitive to human interaction and can easily imprint on people.
To prevent this, we keep handling and human contact to an absolute minimum, allowing animals to retain their natural instincts and giving them the best possible chance to survive and thrive once they return to the wild.

Educational program
Our educational program, proudly supported by Xina Solar One and Pangolin.Africa, is designed to inspire and educate the next generation about nature and conservation. Through engaging, hands-on experiences, young participants learn about wildlife and the importance of protecting it.
